LINCOLN MEMORIAL, DC
My daughter and I took a Lyft to the Lincoln Memorial, and when we first arrived, it was crowded, but nowhere near what it would be later that day. We saw some TikTokers making a video, a protest for Iranian women, and lots and lots of Veterans. Apparently, those Veterans had been flown in from several cities across the country - even from San Diego - by Honor Flight.
The view from the Lincoln Memorial is towards the Washington Monument, standing tall in the distance. You can also see Capitol Hill from there!
The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., honors Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the U.S. Designed by Henry Bacon and dedicated in 1922, it resembles a Greek Doric temple and features a seated statue of Lincoln by Daniel Chester French. The structure has 36 columns, each representing a state when Lincoln died in 1865. Inside, two of Lincoln's significant speeches, the Gettysburg Address and his Second Inaugural Address, are inscribed on the walls, reflecting his commitment to equality and unity. The memorial, a symbol of American history and civil rights, hosted Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech during the 1963 March on Washington. Its reflective pool aligns with the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol, enhancing its national significance. Open 24 hours a day, the memorial invites visitors to reflect on the ideals of freedom, equality, and democracy that Lincoln championed.
