JEFFERSON MEMORIAL, DC

Last time I was there, in early 2023, we didn’t get to see this memorial, and I’m glad we made the effort to see it this time. There is a quite reverence you feel, standing there, looking up at Jefferson.

The Jefferson Memorial, dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, is in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall. Designed by John Russell Pope, it was built between 1939 and 1943, inspired by Rome's Pantheon. The neoclassical structure has a rotunda with 26 columns, each 43 feet tall. Inside is a 19-foot bronze statue of Jefferson by Rudulph Evans and inscriptions of his writings, including the Declaration of Independence. Located by the Tidal Basin, it offers scenic views, especially during cherry blossom season, and serves as a reflective space honoring Jefferson's contributions to American democracy, attracting many visitors for events and ceremonies.
