WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL, DC

After leaving the Washington Monument, we walked toward the World War II Memorial. Never realized this was here!

The World War II Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., honors 16 million Americans who served in the war. Dedicated on April 29, 2004, it lies between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. The design features a rectangular pool surrounded by 56 pillars representing U.S. states and territories. At the center is a stone pavilion with a bronze star field, each star symbolizing 100 service members who died. Inscriptions highlight the war's key aspects, including home front contributions. The memorial offers a serene environment for visitors to reflect on sacrifices made and serves as a tribute to national unity during this pivotal period.
