CARLISLE AND GRETNA GREEN

Our father grew up in Carlisle, in Northern England. Some of our relatives still live there, including our cousin, Nick and his family. He took us to several sites that were important for me to see, such as the school Dad attended (first image), and the house he grew up in (second image).

It was fascinating to visit the cemetery where our ancestors are buried, and to see the head stone with all the family names.

Carlisle Castle didn’t disappoint either, nor did Carlisle Cathedral, where Dad, as a little boy, used to attend church. Of course I paid for a photography license for our visit there!

Gretna Green is right across the Scottish border from Carlisle, and we did a little shopping after listening to the Bagpiper.
