St. GALLEN, Switzerland 2021

In the northeast of Switzerland, there’s a beautiful city called St.Gallen. During my apprenticeship in photo journalism, I went to school here, by taking a 45 minute train ride from Heerbrugg, in the Rheintal. One of my brothers has a travel agency in St. Gallen, it’s called Africa Design Travel (click on link).
I went to spend the day with him, and walked around some areas I had long forgotten about. It was so cold, only about 33F, but we walked around for a couple of hours. Quality time with one of my siblings is ALWAYS worth braving the cold!

St. Gallen, the capital of the canton of the same name in eastern Switzerland, has a population of about 75,000. It is located at the foot of the Appenzell Alps along the Sitter River. The city features the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Abbey, which includes the renowned Abbey Cathedral and Library, famous for its Baroque architecture and ancient manuscripts.

Historically rooted in textile manufacturing, St. Gallen's economy now includes finance, high-tech industries, and a growing startup scene. The University of St. Gallen enhances its vibrant academic environment.

The charming old town boasts preserved buildings, frescoes, and narrow streets, while cultural events celebrate its lively arts scene. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy hiking trails and parks. St. Gallen's excellent public transport connectivity facilitates exploration of nearby areas and the broader region, making it a distinctive destination in Switzerland.
